Liam's new toy

Babies R Us is having their trade in sale and Liam just happened to outgrow his swing. So (with permission from my sister who gave me to swing) we traded it in for a 25% discount. I wanted to get Liam a jump-a-roo. He loves bouncing and I always wanted a jump a roo. I firmly believe if I had gotten one for Grady, he would have learned to jump before he was 3 years old.....

We passed by a Winnie the Pooh Jump-a-roo that I loved! It had a sign on it for trade-in but wasn't on the list of   participating products. So I picked out a Little Einsteins one. But in passing, I really wanted the Winnie the Pooh one; especially since it had a special pillow to help support younger babies. So Brett asked and the woman said, if it has a sign on it; it was included. Score!!

Halfway to the check out, she caught up with us. Apparently, someone had mismarked a ton of items, including the Pooh Jumper. So it wasn't included in the sale. But since it was their mistake, they would honor the 25% discount for us! Double Score!!!

So Liam is now the proud owner of a really, really cool jump-a-roo!

My little gerber baby LOVES it! He's already figured out how to bounce, although he only does it on one foot  because no matter what I do, he leans to the left.

He is so happy to be in a standing position on his own. Liam wants to be like his big brother so badly! This toy lets him have a little freedom. And some very cool, noisy toys..

(Don't mind the middle finger-it's one of his favorite to check on. That or he was tired of me taking his picture.)

And now Liam can bouncy bounce just like Tigger!

Four Months Old

It's been four months since my little Liam was born. 16 weeks. 112 days.

And I've loved every single minute of it.

Liam is such a wonderful baby. His big blue eyes are always watching; taking in everything! He loves watching his big brothers play and you can tell he can't wait to be in the middle of that ruckus.

He's a beautiful, happy baby.

With a huge gerber baby smile. He's starting to be ticklish and has an adorable little giggle.

He's recently started cereal. He hated rice cereal. But we're on oatmeal with bananas and that goes down a little easier. Each feeding he eats more and more. Bottle wise; he eats 6 oz every 3-4 hours.

And he's teething like crazy!! Drool everywhere. Fingers always in the mouth. Nom nom nom nom nom.

He loves sitting up. I think it makes him feel like a big boy.

He has some pretty cool big brothers that are defiantly enjoying having him around!

Tummy Time is still a struggle. Liam isn't rolling over yet. But he loves sleeping on his side and will sometimes sleep on his belly. He HATES sleeping on his back.

And speaking of sleep....

Liam is still a wonderful sleeper! He starts out the night sleeping in his crib and usually moves to bed with me about 12:00/1am. I think it's because his room is a lot colder with the door shut than the other rooms. After that, he sleeps until 7:30-8:00. Later on the weekends.

I love my little guy! He is growing so fast and I'm trying to enjoy every day and every moment.

My Son

Asperger syndrome (AS) is a developmental disorder.
AS is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), one of a distinct group of neurological conditions characterized by a greater or lesser degree of impairment in language and communication skills, as well as repetitive or restrictive patterns of thought and behavior.
The most distinguishing symptom of AS is a child’s obsessive interest in a single object or topic to the exclusion of any other.  Some children with AS have become experts on vacuum cleaners, makes and models of cars, even objects as odd as deep fat fryers(or legos, Gettysburg and the Titanic(added by me).  Children with AS want to know everything about their topic of interest and their conversations with others will be about little else.  Their expertise, high level of vocabulary, and formal speech patterns make them seem like little professors.
Children with AS will gather enormous amounts of factual information about their favorite subject and will talk incessantly about it, but the conversation may seem like a random collection of facts or statistics, with no point or conclusion.

Children with AS often lack the ability to modulate the volume of their voice to match their surroundings.  For example, they will have to be reminded to talk softly every time they enter a library or a movie theatre.
peculiarities in speech and language, such as speaking in an overly formal manner or in a monotone, or taking figures of speech literally
Unlike the severe withdrawal from the rest of the world that is characteristic of autism, children with AS are isolated because of their poor social skills and narrow interests.  In fact, they may approach other people, but make normal conversation impossible by inappropriate or eccentric behavior, or by wanting only to talk about their singular interest.
Children with AS usually have a history of developmental delays in motor skills such as pedaling a bike, catching a ball, or climbing outdoor play equipment.   They are often awkward and poorly coordinated with a walk that can appear either stilted or bouncy
Many children with AS are highly active in early childhood, and then develop anxiety or depression in young adulthood.  Other conditions that often co-exist with AS are ADHD, tic disorders (such as Tourette syndrome), depression, anxiety disorders, and OCD.
Boys are three to four times more likely than girls to have AS.
I love Aiden with all my heart. And my heart aches for him as well. Aiden's diagnosed with mild AS, as well as ADHD. His ADHD is  controlled with medication (currently Daytrana and Clonodine).
I watched my Mom struggle for years (and still struggle) with my brother, who has severe AS (as well as many other problems.)  I never thought I would have a child on the spectrum.
I worry. I worry that he doesn't have any friends. That he is the one the kids make fun of at school. He doesn't understand when people make fun of him, or tease him. Sarcasm is like a foreign language to him. I very, very rarely hear a real laugh from him because he doesn't understand humor or jokes. When he does a real laugh; it is so precious to me.
He's obsessed with Legos and bagpipes and lately, the Titanic and Gettysburg. He sucks up every, single piece of information he can about it. Most conversations go back to either of those three topics.
But Aiden is one of the most compassionate kids I know. He's empathetic and caring towards everyone. He's beautiful inside and out. He is one of the best big brothers ever (except when Grady is pushing his buttons.) He has so much love in his heart. And I pray that his peers are able to see that. That he won't be judged by his "quirks" but by the whole person that he is.
I've always called Aiden my Angel and my Light. And he is. Our struggles aside-I am VERY, VERY blessed.
I wish childhood was easier. I wish I didn't have to worry about people teasing my precious son. I just hope and pray that I'm doing a good enough job raising him so that he will have confidence in himself and who he is; no matter what anyone says.

Big Boy

My little guy is getting so big!!

It's hard to believe he is almost 4 months old! It feels like he's been here forever and yet it also feels like it's just been a blink of an eye.

No joke about the blinking......my Grady is going to be 4 in a month! I can't believe THAT!

I'm enjoying every moment with Liam. Every red hair on his head, the sparkle in his blue eyes, the chubby chubby cheeks and the gerber baby smile.  He's awesome.

Fun in the Snow

Grady has never played in the snow. Never owned a pair of boots or used his snow pants. The joys of being a little asthmatic. But he's done so well the past year, I figured we might give it a try this year. So on a sunny, somewhat warm (for a snowy day) afternoon, I bundled him up for the first time and sent him into the snow with his brother and Daddy.

First he tried to take his kitty with him. Simba wasn't interested...

He was SO excited to be outside!

My little snow bunny

SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!

Liam watched all the action from the backdoor, with him trusty blankey

Grady LOVED playing in the snow! I only gave him 20 minutes and he sure wasn't ready to come in when I told him time was up.

My munchkin enjoyed some hot chocolate to warm up.

I always have to drag Aiden inside! He loves playing in the snow and prefers to not come back inside. He also doesn't like hot chocolate....so he just had a cookie when he came in.

Hopefully, Grady continues to do well and is able to get another fun day in the snow soon!

Baby Stats

Today Liam had his (almost) 4 month dr. appointment. I can't believe my baby is almost 4 months old!! He was given a clean bill of health! No more breathing problems and developing right on track! Woohoo!!

At (almost) 4 months old, Liam is my smallest.  He is

14 lbs 9 oz and 25 inches tall

Grady was:

16 lbs 12 oz and 25.25 inches tall

And Aiden was a beast at:

19 lbs 7oz and 26 3/4 inches tall

I really thought Liam was bigger than Grady and they are close, but so far Liam is my little guy.

And now.....a dose of cuteness!

2012

2011 was a bad year. Probably the worst ever. In March-my family went through a nightmare that has yet to 100% end. It may never end. It was and is the worst thing that could ever have happened to us. It ruined the entire year.

The only good thing that happened in 2011 was the birth of my beautiful little Liam. Even that wasn't without drama due to a NICU stay.

So I will keep this short.....and not so sweet.

Good bye 2011. F*ck You. Kiss my *ss.

I hope 2012 is a better year. I can't imagine it being worse. I hope my family can keep healing and finally moving forward this year. That we make new memories and discover new dreams.
